Mother C
C is for crying, which is what my daughter did last night after Obama won. She is very fearful, and sad about what our country is turning into. It was hard comforting her, while at the same time, being upset myself. But isn't that what mom's and dad's do? Shove our feelings aside, while we fix our kiddos? I remember one time when a child and I got hurt together. I don't remember the specifics at the moment, but we were both hurt pretty bad. I wanted to cry and lose it completely, but the only thing that kept me in focus was that my child needed me more. Parenting is such a self sacrificing job, and people who choose to have no children are missing out on such an awesome shaping tool for their character. They are apt to be selfish, and lonely. I remember before I had kids, I didn't want kids anywhere near me. Don't touch my car, don't drool on me, and just go away already. ME, ME, ME! However, God tells us that children are a blessing for a reason. To mold us while we mold them. To come outside our comfort zones, and reach deep inside ourselves to find love and compassion for someone who is not us. It's a good place to be...

Dear Holly,
I know that we've agreed to disagree, so I feel safe telling you that I'm a Democrat. (You may have suspected it). Of course, I'm a moderate (or even conservative) Democrat. And there are a LOT just like me.... born-again Christians who believe in the Bible, and are Democrats.
I think that one big difference between the two parties is that the Democratic Party is more diverse. Lots of people who call themselves Democrats don't agree with every official position of the Democratic Party. As you know, I don't believe in abortion. Many different points of view are represented in the party. But very few Democrats are actually "liberals" (they did a poll and estimated maybe 18%).
Anyway, to comfort your daughter you might suggest that she look up what actual Republicans (who voted for Obama) say about why they voted for him. Like General Colin Powell, and the granddaughter of Barry Goldwater, and many many many others. It might reassure her.
Also, you might tell her about John McCain's reply to a woman at one of his rallies who said she was "afraid" of Obama because he was an "Arab". McCain shook his head as he took the microphone back and then said, "No....no, ma'am". She asked, "No?", and he repeated, "No. He is a good, decent man and if he becomes president you don't have to fear him." I may not have the exact words correct, but that was the general gist of his remarks.
Anyway, I don't know if any of that will help at all....but remember that the Bible says (somewhere) that the Lord is involved in choosing the leaders (kings, etc) of nations, and that He chooses kings (and presidents) for His purposes. I've had to remind myself of that EVERY day for the past 8 years!!
I'm very happy that Barack Obama was elected President. I'm proud of my country for electing an African-American to the highest office in the land, and I'm praying for him to be led of the Lord during his time in the White House, because it will be a very tough job, and because he is a Christian.
I still love you....and hope you still love me! :)
JoAnn
we will DEFINITLY need to agree to disagree here. Barack Obama is for everything I am against, and there is NO way I can support him at all. I will be praying big time, because if he has his way, our country will see a decline like we have never seen.
Also, I didn't think you were a democrat. You surprised me there.
OK....I guess I shouldn't have felt safe telling you I was a Democrat. It definitely sounds as though you don't even like me anymore. Which absolutely amazes me....I really thought better of you.
:(
And apparently you also disagree with John McCain? When he said that Obama is a good, decent man? You also disagree with Pat Robertson, who TONIGHT said on Larry King that Barack Obama has the potential to be one of our greatest presidents.
I will continue to pray for you and your family....especially your precious little Rachel.
Take care,
JoAnn
Where did I say that I don't like YOU, JoAnn? I don't like OBAMA. I don't like anything he stands for. He is the most left wing, liberal person in office. I have a problem with him, and his politics. Of course all the Christian leaders are going to try to console their followers. EVERYONE has the potential to be a great person....even Obama. That is not the point. His politics and ideas are very against anything I believe in.
I take offense at your comment about me. You thought better of me?? Because I was surprised a christian is a democrat? Because I can't like our countries choice of president?
Good grief, JoAnn...
I didn't mean to offend you....I was under the impression that you were angry with me just for having a different opinion than you do. That's what I meant when I said I thought better of you. I'm sorry if I was wrong.
As far as I can tell, from all of the information that he has given us so far, Obama stands for:
1. Unity, across party and ethnic lines.
2. Tax cuts for the middle class and higher taxes for the wealthy.
3. Affordable health care for all Americans.
4. Getting us out of Iraq (where we never should have been in the first place) so our troops can fight Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, because Osama bin Laden is in Afghanistan and he is the one who attacked us on 9/11.
5. Repairing our credibility with the rest of the world.
6. Getting our economy back on track.
You're against all of those things?
Holly, I'm really sorry for the last comment....I know I can't change your mind any more than you can change mine. I should just be glad that it's Obama that you don't like....not me! :)
Anyway, our views on many issues, such as abortion and gay marriage, are the same. I don't believe in abortion, and I voted for Prop 8 here in California which overturns the gay marriage law. I don't believe that a union between same-sex partners should be called marriage.
And yes, I'm a Christian and a Democrat, and plenty of other Dems are just like me.
Just wait...Obama's going to be making plenty of left-wing Dems angry because he's NOT very liberal. He's really more of a moderate.
So anyway, this is my last post on this topic! I really did mean well when I started...but obviously I screwed up. Which is not unusual for me.
((hugs))
JoAnn
It used to be that there were conservatives and liberals on both sides of the aisle. Dems for big gov't. and Pubs for small gov't. Now the Dems are alsmot 75% or more liberals, where as Pubs are 75% or more Conservatives.
1. Never once did Obama vote across party lines in his entire state or U.S. senate careers. He only broke "party lines" to vote more liberal than the other democrats. matter of record, don't trust what he says.
2. He's gonna give "welfare checks" basically to 42 million people who currently don't pay any taxes at all. As far as the rich, most of them earned their money (not trust-fund kids). All this will do is cause the rich to find ways to hide money overseas or other ways and for big businesses to pass taxes onto the consumers (always what they do). Look into www.fairtax.org for a better solution.
3. Are you for affordable or Universal?? because he is for universal which will do nothing but put an even higher tax burden on us. Other than maybe births (which aren't that many anyway) the wait in countries in Canada and Europe to see a dr. is so long that people die waiting to get surgeries. So, they cross the usa border and get in an emergency room in one day. With all of the illegals and so many people who already don't pay taxes this will cause a huge burden again to those who do.
4. This is an issue that crosses party lines, some on both sides of the aisle want to stay or go. As for Bin Laden, he is actually in Pakistan caves on border and I don't agree with the fact that we haven't just gone in and done something about it. And actually Sadam gave lots of money to Al Qaida and was a despot in his own right. After the surge(finally doing it right) we actually had ZERO american military deaths in Iraq in October this year. Went unreported in media because it would've upset the Dems too much.
5. The world is only happy because they are waiting for us to sink to a socialist state and then they can control the U.N. and then us. If Illegal Immigration isn't stopped and reversed, this country will sink to a 3rd world status by 2025. This is mentioned by financial people NOT political.
6. As for the economy, just look at the massive pullout of the stock market and massive job layoffs on tap in the big companies. The economy has not been bad long enough to warrant these drastic measures. The financial people are recommending these steps to protect themselves in future because of the Obama programs. The owner of the miami dolphins is selling the team and trying to do it before Jan. 1 to avoid the higher capital gains taxes. These people know what's coming if Obama "gets the economy back on track" his way. I trust these people more than a politician that pretends to be a financial guru and constitutional scholar.
I am FOR
1. a return to constitutionalism
2. a better, reformed tax system without the IRS. "punishing the rich" is not the way.
3. a fix for the healthcare issues facing americans that won't bankrupt us (we differ in how to do it)
4. a solution that finishes what we started in Iraq.
5. Being the kind of country we are, we will never be liked by other countries, but we can be respected.
6. I want this too, we just differ on how it should be done.
I just think Obama is a liar and socialist and he will not do what I want done to fix America.
If I sit in a church for 1 year 1 time a month, I could tell exactly what that church is about and what the pastor believes. Obama couldn't after 20 years understand what his pastor believed or even just read their webpage explaining black liberation theology???? NOT! He even is on video in 1995 stating how close he was to Wright and that he thought he represented all that was great about black churches in America.
Plus his stance on abortion alone should make one against him. He will repeal every advance we have made thus far. He hangs out with terrorists, who he claims "he just knows them??" one babysat for him!!! Honestly, he reminds me of Hitler in the way that he can make everyone go gaga over his ideas. Everyone is looking to repair all the crap in this country, and they will fall for anyone who talks loud enough, and he is apparently "the chosen one?" He won't do half the good stuff he promised, but he will do most of the bad stuff we see coming.
Lastly, he is one arrogant and pompous individual. ICK! He bought a stage for several million dollars to give his acceptance speech on! Yet, everyone complained when they bought Palin clothes? He acts like God and I have a super issue with that.
I accept your apology. Politics is a hot topic, much the same as religion. At least we agree on that one. :)
